🥋 Standing Strong Against Bullying: How Kids Can Take Action

At Sorce Martial Arts, we believe every child deserves to feel safe, respected, and confident.
Bullying can be hard to talk about — but learning what it is, why it happens, and how to respond gives kids the power to make a real difference.

💭 What Is Bullying?

Bullying isn’t just a one-time argument or disagreement — it’s repetitive, intentional behavior meant to hurt, embarrass, or control someone else.
It can happen with words, actions, or even online. But no matter where it happens, it’s always wrong.

🚫 Why Is It Wrong?

Bullying tears people down instead of building them up. It can make others feel scared, alone, or “less than.”
At our school, we believe in the opposite — building confidence, kindness, and community.

Everyone deserves respect. No one has the right to take that away.

 Why Do People Still Bully?

Sometimes kids bully others because:

• They want to fit in or impress someone.

• They’ve been bullied themselves and are trying to feel strong.

• They don’t realize how much their words or actions can hurt.

The good news? With awareness, empathy, and the right tools, we can break that cycle.

💪 Take the Pledge!

Every student in our Done With Bullying program takes a simple but powerful stand:

I believe everyone has the right to feel safe.
I will commit to standing strong against bullying.
I will treat others with respect and kindness.
I have the courage to help, speak up, and do what’s right.
I will not stand by — I will stand up!

This pledge reminds us that we’re all responsible for making our school and community a safer place.

🥋 Martial Arts in Action

In class, we connect life lessons to martial arts movement.
Students practice how to stay calm, confident, and ready — both mentally and physically.

👀 When Others Are Being Bullied

What should you do if you see someone being bullied?

❌ Join in?
❌ Watch and say nothing?
❌ Pretend you didn’t see it?

No! Those choices only help the bully. Instead, be an Upstander!

🌟 Be an Upstander (Role Play in Class!)

We teach several “Upstander” responses that empower students to help safely:

• Get there first! Don’t give the bully an audience.

• Step in and speak up: “Hey, that’s not nice.”

• Distract and re-direct: Ask a question, change the subject, or lead your friend away.

• Leave and report: Get an adult or teacher involved right away.

Role-playing these moments helps kids feel ready if they ever face them in real life.

💬 What To Do When You Are Bullied

If it happens to you, remember — you are not powerless.

1. Use your mind: Stay calm. Think before reacting.

2. Use your legs: Walk away when you can.

3. Use your words: Speak with confidence.

Humor redirect: Lightly change the subject or make a joke.

Humor own it: Laugh it off to show it doesn’t bother you.

Confront it: Say “That’s not nice,” or “Why would you say that?”

4. Use your stance: Get into a Defensive Guarding Stance— look strong and say firmly,

“Stop picking on me!”

Every strategy starts with confidence and respect — both for yourself and others.

❤️ Final Thought

Martial arts teaches kids that real strength isn’t about hurting others — it’s about helping others.
When students understand that they can make a difference, they stop being bystanders and start being leaders.

Together, we can build a community where every child feels safe, supported, and strong.
Because at Sorce Martial Arts, we don’t stand by…
We stand up!
